Snowshoeing in Killington

Date: March 2, 2012

Location: Killington, VT

Description: During an office ski trip to Killington, VT, I took the guided High Altitude Snowshoe Tour. It was an interesting experience, especially since it was my first snowshoeing attempt ever. It started with a short bus ride from the Killington Grand to a cabin near the Sunrise Cafe, where we changed into snow boots and strapped on snowshoes. Then began the trek over the freshly fallen snow (it had snowed the previous two days), through woods with snow laden bare-boughed trees.  It took more effort than I would have thought, especially on the uphill stretches, even though the elevation gain was rather mild. After a half hour, we arrived at the "Wilderness Camp" where a fire, a heated tent and lunch awaited. An hour and a half and some food and conversation later, we set out again and took a somewhat longer one hour loop back.
