Colonel's Chair to Hunter Mtn Fire Tower

Or, How I climbed atop a wind-blown ice-encrusted fire tower during Memorial Day weekend in New York

Hike Date: May 26, 2013

Location: Hunter, NY

This view reveals the promise of snow on the summit

A sapling stands tall despite the snow cover

Finally,  I get to the fire tower

Breathtaking!

Truly a winter wonderland, except it isn't winter

It's melting fast! As I retraced my steps, I found that the rising temperature
and the wind (which produced "rain" by shaking the trees till they shed
 snow in melted form) had turned large segments of previously snow-covered
trail into stream beds
While returning I ran into a hiker  I had previously met at the fire tower;
he had just finished making this snowman
