This is the second of a series of five posts pertaining to a week-long trip of Glacier National Park in August 2013.
Date: August 11, 2013
Location: Glacier National Park, MT
This was my second hike of the day on August 11 which I spent hiking the Logan Pass area (the first hike being that of the Highline Trail up to Haystack Butte and back). I started at around 3:30 p.m. Hidden Lake is the hike most visitors to Logan Pass end up undertaking, and thus it is a very crowded trail up to the overlook.
The trailhead is right behind the visitor center building, and this trail is excellent for mountain goat sightings at close range (I also spotted some bighorn sheep on a slope).
After a scenic hike (including a minor waterfall), I arrived at the overlook where Hidden Lake reveals itself. The view is simply gorgeous!
The trail continues down to the lake (another 1.5 miles), but that was not on my agenda. After spending several minutes at the overlook, I headed back, stopping en route to take more photographs.
At 5:15 p.m., I was back at Logan Pass where I found a westbound shuttle waiting and boarded. I got back to the Transit Center by 7:00 p.m., and then walked the 2 miles back to West Glacier, to finish what was a lovely 14-mile 2-hike day.
