Rigi is a lovely mountain (known by the Swiss as 'Queen of the Mountains') and also a very easy day trip from Zurich. Every hour, one can catch a train that gets one to Arth-Goldau in 45 min, where one can then take the RigiBahn cog railway up the mountain (another 45 minutes to the top; there are also several stops along the way). From the summit one gets a panoramic view of the Swiss Alps.
On what turned out to be a clear and lovely Sunday after my Saturday Ruinaulta hike, I went up Rigi Kulm via the cog railway, and hiked down part of the way to Klösterli, before catching the cog railway down.
