This is the second of a series of posts detailing hikes and walks I undertook in the course of a road trip in July 2016 that spanned 9 days and 3 states: CA, OR and NV (the last very transiently).
Date: July 3, 2016
Location: Crater Lake National Park, OR
After a long drive up to Crater Lake on July 2, I spent the night at the Lodge, and woke up refreshed, planning to hike up Garfield Peak (the trail starts just behind the Crater Park Lodge, where the paved promenade ends) in the morning. I set out early enough, stopping at several lovely viewpoints, before encountering a snowfield that covered the narrow trail on a gravelly/slippery slope. After some hesitation, I tried making it across, but found it too slippery (my backpack with my DSLR and extra lens further impeded my mobility; a friendly hiker lent me a hand). And so I decided to retrace my steps out of prudence, a bit annoyed at myself for not having made the right judgement call right away.
