This is the third of a series of posts on hikes and strolls undertaken during a 5-day CA road trip.
Date: September 2, 2017
Location: Stanislaus National Forest, CA
On Saturday morning, I headed out from Chester towards the Eastern Sierras via CA-36 and US 395S, with a plan to take a detour on CA-108 to drive over Sonora Pass and back, and also visit the
Column of the Giants - a geological feature along CA-108 west of the pass.
It was around 3:00 p.m. when I got to the Column of the Giants after a fun drive over Sonora Pass. A short quarter mile trail leads from the parking lot to the formation itself. While not the most stunning example of columnar formations, it is still fairly striking.
