Walking the streets of Bodie

This is the sixth of a series of posts on hikes and strolls undertaken during a 5-day CA road trip.

Date: September 3, 2017

On CA-270 heading to Bodie
Location: Bodie, CA

After Travertine Hot Springs, my next stop was Bodie State Historic Park.

Driving on for a few miles on US-395S, I then turned left onto CA-270. This is a fun curvy road through the mountains, and in very good condition for the next several miles. I saw no other vehicles on this stretch except for a returning RV, leading me to erroneously expect that Bodie would be rather quiet! The paved road abruptly gives way to a washboarded dirt road. Around this time, a few other cars started showing up from behind.

After a miles of slow dirt road driving, I finally got to Bodie, and found a rather full parking lot, despite my earlier assumptions.

It is an interesting place to spend some time, walking the streets of a former mining town preserved in a state of arrested decay.
